Petrol Scam Alert

Good afternoon all,

We have had a couple of incidents of a scam being reported locally with people claiming to have no money to pay for petrol.  This has occurred around the Appleby Magna area over recent days.  In short, a person at or near a petrol station will be approached by someone claiming their bank card is faulty and they cannot pay for fuel.  They will ask for you to give them money and they will transfer the amount to your bank.  They will even show you a screen showing the “bank transfer” has been successful.  This is a scam, the bank transfer app is a fake and you will receive no money.  If someone approaches you in these circumstances do not give them any money.  Alert the Police by calling 101/999 as appropriate and if possible provide details such as the registration of the suspects vehicle.
